Children on board

Reduction of a third for children

With the children's reduction, young passengers get great fares on Germanwings flights.
Children from 2 to 11, as well as infants under 2 who travel in a child’s seat in their own seat, get a reduction of a third of the net fare of the flight when booking.*

Small children under 2 sitting on their parent’s lap only pay a service charge of 15 € per leg. Please add 19% VAT on flights within Germany.

Smaller passengers are especially important to us

The Germanwings Boomi Bear demonstrates our family-friendly policy and points out our offers and services for children.

New rules on carrying infants

From 16 July 2008 there are new EU provisions for the transport of infants on planes. Starting on this date children up to 2 can be carried in child seats approved by the respective airline, if they are booked a separate seat of their own.

Alternatively, the European Commission with the consent of 26 member states and their safety authorities allow for children to be carried on their parents’ lap using a so-called “loop-belt”.

Entry and exit regulations for children and adolescents

Please note...

...that in France and Spain children and adolescents under 18, who do not have their own passport, need to provide a written parental authorisation to be able to leave their home country. The authorisation is an official form that can be obtained from your local town hall or police station and must be filled out and signed by the parents. When travelling to and from Croatia, children and adolescents under 18 (under 14 for Croatian nationals) who are not travelling with an authorised carer, must have their own passport as well as the written authorisation of their parents. The authorisation must be notarised. A notarised written parental authorisation is also required for children under 12 travelling to and from Portugal.

Care service for children travelling alone

Children from 5 to 11 can also travel unaccompanied on Germanwings flights within Germany. Unfortunately at present we cannot offer this service on other routes. Our staff are ever friendly and are there to look after the well-being of your child making sure they arrive safely at the destination airport. We also offer every child travelling unaccompanied a free soft drink.

On-board entertainment for children

To keep them entertained we have a whole page just for children in the Germanwings on-board magazine. There our younger passengers can find stories, comics and puzzles on the theme of flying.

Pushchairs and buggies

Pushchairs, buggies and travel cots will be carried free of charge. Larger pushchairs will be carried separately as bulky luggage. Depending on the departure airport, smaller lighter buggies can be taken right to the gate.

Baggage allowance for children

For children age 2 and above and infants under 2 who travel in their own seat using a child seat the same baggage provisions apply as for adult passengers.
